Fernanda and Steven represented the Ding Lab at the 2018 meeting of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) in San Diego, CA. Steven presented his work titled “Comprehensive Multi-Omics Analysis of Gene Fusions in a Large Multiple Myeloma Cohort”, while Fernanda presented twice: one invited talk titled “Germline Variants in Multiple Myeloma”, and a poster titled “Characterization of Germline Variants in Multiple Myeloma”. They enjoyed meeting new colleagues, collaborators, and exploring San Diego! Chris Yoon, representing his lab at KAIST, also presented his work with multiple myeloma samples from Korea. Dr. Matthew Bailey valiantly defended his thesis titled “Somatic Variant Detection and Driver Gene Discovery Using TCGA”. We were glad he rearranged his busy conference call schedule to talk to us about his science! He wowed us with big data circos plots and sweetly shared the positive influence his family and community have had on his life. Bailey’s children now refer to him as Dr. Dad! October 3, 2018.
